Does that mean we can hit the trails together than? LOL!
The one I tried to sign up for the last time said I was already a member. Must be new bars. LOL!
Me too! Already been there aparently. I signed my daughter in Ga. up for some though. Hope they taste better than the Kellogs strawberry ones, they’re nasty!
Hey there Gatorpaw, Sounds like you have really been busy today. If I were closer I’d be glad to help ya out. Since you’ve quit for the day go home & jump in the pool and take the rest of the day off!! LOL!!! Take Care & enjoy the rest of the week-end :0)
Thanks Anne, I came home and jumped in the shower, and fell in the bed! Double dog tired! My mom sure had a load of crap. Good crap mostly, but still crap. God Love Her! I sure miss her.
That, Debra Kemp, is why I hear voices at night! LOL! “Hey there people I’m Bobby Brown, they say I’m the cutest boy in town. My car is fast, my teeth are shiny, I tell all the girls they can kiss my heiney…” 8*)
gatorpaw, just gotta keep plugging away at it all! Slowly but surely their will be an end. Amazing how the older generations hung and hang onto stuff. Even if they have a ton of the stuff, more is better. What about a yard sale? Kiddos are back to school around here again tomorrow. Not to many happy campers. LOL!
Have a great day everyone! :-)
Yeah Mayor SusieQ, my sister came yesterday and took back a car load of stuff for yard sale. I’m no good at that sort of thing, but she has good luck with it, so more power to her. I have already thrown away a big black garbage bag FULL of crochet books. (mom would never dream of such heresy) There are still about that many more that I am going to give away.
Also, mom had a small suitcase filled with old postcards, some of them over 100 years old. The newest ones were from 1948. Some were written to my Great Grandmother in WVa. One told her to go ahead with the butter, if she could put it up in quarts. Imagine! and another saying “That will be fine about the hog.” And there was one to my Grandmother postmarked 1913 that said the Ice Cream social was canceled due to Small Pox! yikes! We take so much for granted these days. Life was hard back then and they cherished small pleasures. (You know I kept all those cards!)
And rightfully so they should be hung onto. Thats HISTORY for sure! I would have truly enjoyed looking over those post cards. I have a few that I purchased over the years, not knowing the person writing them, but talking about the war in Germany, and one is a post card asking a ladies hand in marriage. And the gentleman asked an out of turn question so he posed it, asking if he could please have a picture of her also. I also have a collection of the old BD and other holiday cards people would send. How fancy some of them are and fun to look at. You know you can put things on Craigslist, and ebay, like the crochet books. There are always people looking for what we may consider unusable things. “One mans junk is another mans treasure!” It’s just finding the time to do it and the space to keep it all. Sometimes more of a bother like you said, and easier just to give it away! I’m guessing your Mom was a sweetheart of a lady! Again, good luck with it all! My thoughts are with you! :-)
Thanks SusieQ, that’s a great idea about craigslist. I hadn’t thought of that for the crochet books. Yes, those old cards are quite nice. I have some that belonged to my grandmother that she put into an album when she was little. They are really old, from as far back as 1905.
Yes, you would have loved my mom. She was a very sweet lady, always making afghans and hats and all sorts of things for everyone. I have a beautiful bed spread she crocheted out of that ecrew color thread, you know, the fine stuff. Very Beautiful!! She did table clothes too. She could crochet anything as long as she had a pattern book to tell her the steps. She tried to teach me, but I just wasn’t a good student. Couldn’t sit still long enough!
I found a ration coupon book from WWII in that old trunk I brought home. No telling what all is in there. Very old stuff though, no doubt. Mom used to take pictures of everything and I have really nice baby books from when I was little. I used to say she was a photo-journalist because she was so good at capturing everything in her family’s life. She has photo albums all dated and going back to the 40’s. She was pretty cool really. She worked in Akron Ohio during the war (right after high school) for Goodyear and met a girl her age named Ann. Mom moved down here to Florida and Ann went west. She and mom never saw each other again, but they corresponded by mail till Ann died, just a couple years before mom. Very sweet ladies those two.
Good Morning gatorpaw, I am so glad that your mom decided to save all that she did. I know it is a lot of work for you. But I sure am enjoying all the memories the stuff has left for you. Maybe that is what she had in mind all along! Such a wonderful mom she was!
Hopefully, your children will come to enjoy the memories she has left behind also. I am sure you keep them interested with her history. Thats always a good thing! :-)
How nice to have her crochet works. There are sites on the net that are trying to keep that art aliveand clubs also to help teach anyone who is willing to learn the old arts. The tablecloths and doilies that used to be made are simply beautiful. A work of art in themselves. I have a collection of ladies hankies from days goan by. I always enjoy looking at them from time to time. And those pictures your mom kept records with I am sure are priceless to you and your family now! Quite the lady your mom was indeed! :-)
